WHAT WE HAVE ACHIEVED/DELIVERED SO FAR
 
SARADA NURSERY SCHOOL, BATTICALOA (our EVEN larger project!)
Construction and fitout
  • Funding of the construction to first floor stage
  • Official opening in February 2008 (viewing photos from afar!)
  • Tables, desks and chairs for 80 children
  • Furniture for 5 teachers, cupboards, TV set, DVD player and teaching aids
  • Playground equipment – swing, see-saw, slide
  • Shipping 22,500 educational books Integrated Primary English (donated courtesy of author Ken Methold and Pearson Education Asia Limited(in particular Cynthia Lam), Hong Kong
VAHARAI PRE-SCHOOL
  • Acquisition and clearing of land
  • Funding of the construction (now completed)

  • Donations of Rupees to – A family of an injured child (including hospital necessities), A family with a sick baby, Six very needy families
  • Mortgage payment contribution for a 21 year old Tuk tuk driver (Tuk tuk = 3 wheeler taxi)
  • Boarding School fees for a 16 yo girl to enable higher education
  • Baby goods for a destitute family’s 12 month old son
HOUSING
  • Fundraised and constructed 4 new houses for Tsunami victims
  • Officiated at openings
HEALTH CARE
Vaharai
  • Conducted numerous medical clinics (including vaccination clinics for children) – providing a doctor and nurse
  • Medicines
  • Medical equipment – diagnostic set, ophthalmoscope, stethoscopes, syphignomometer
  • conducting Education seminars for volunteer health workers (via interpreter)
  • Provision of 15 books “What to Do When There Isn’t a Doctor” to health care workers, pre-school/orphanage directors
  • Donation (wages) for health care workers
  • Fuel for vehicles
  • Purchased office furniture
  • Purchased petrol lanterns
  • Batticaloa - $500 towards medicines for Ramakhrisha Mission Family Health Care Centre (a free clinic for destitute families)
ORPHANAGES (Boys and Girls homes - 55 Girls and 45 Boys)
  • Vitamins & medicines (essential to combat malnourishment)
  • Rice, fresh fruit and vegetables, biscuits (and always treats!)

  • Backpacks (containing school necessities, towel, toys)
  • new Skirts and tops for girls; T Shirts/shirts and pants for boys
  • Toys – cricket bats, Soccer & Netballs, paddling pools, board games, kites, skipping ropes and lots more
